Role Overview:

In the role of Product Design Engineer, you will be instrumental in crafting inclusive and innovative solutions that significantly improve the quality of life for people with a range of needs. This position involves collaborative efforts with interdisciplinary teams, including designers, paramedical staff, and accessibility specialists, to design products that are user-friendly, accessible, and functional.

Key Responsibilities:

Research & Analysis:

• Examine current products and technologies to find areas for improvement, innovation, and cost-effective alternatives.
• Keep abreast of the latest developments in affordable assistive technologies, accessibility standards, and inclusive, user-centered design methodologies.

Concept Development:

• Contribute to the creation of inventive, cost-effective, and viable product concepts aimed at addressing the unique challenges faced by individuals with disabilities.
• Work alongside designers and stakeholders to turn user insights into actionable design solutions.
• Use sketches, mockups, and prototypes to present and refine design ideas.

Engineering Design:

• Outline detailed engineering specifications and requirements for product features and components.
• Produce 3D models and technical drawings using CAD software and other design tools, such as Fusion 360 or SolidWorks.
• Perform technical evaluations to ensure designs are practical, affordable, and manufacturable.
• Maintain thorough documentation throughout the product development process, including final product files.

Communication and Collaboration:

• Engage closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on project goals and requirements.
• Effectively communicate design concepts, technical considerations, and project updates to all stakeholders.
• Participate actively in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and team meetings to promote collaboration and innovation.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Design, or a related field.
• Proven experience in product design and development, emphasizing affordability, accessibility, and inclusive design.
• Skilled in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360) and other design tools.
• Strong knowledge of engineering principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
• Empathy, creativity, and a strong desire to create solutions that enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities.
• Proficiency in English.
• Experience with manufacturing and fabrication tools and equipment.
• Enthusiasm for open-source principles and community-led innovation.

• Previous experience in a Makerspace, Fablab, or similar setting is advantageous.

About the Company:

Techlinic Ltd. is a local company specialized in advancing technology, innovation, and employment in Jerusalem. In the last years, Techlinic has partnered with multiple partners in different fields and conducted dozen capacity building programs for tech engineers in east Jerusalem and has proven experience in advancing their employment. Techlinic has three main departments, a) capacity building and training, b) employment facilitation and c) Jinnovate, Health-Tech innovation center.

About the Project:

Jinnovate is the Jerusalem Innovation Center for Health-Tech and Technology, the center activities are fully funded by Techlinic’s partners and donors. This five-year project aims to work with local and international stakeholders for enabling the health-tech ecosystem and creating new health-tech startups in Jerusalem.

Techlinic is currently accepting proposals for “Mapping Health-Tech Innovation in Jerusalem” The purpose of this Request for Proposal (RFP) is to solicit proposals from various candidate organizations, conduct a fair and extensive evaluation based on criteria listed herein, and select the candidate who best represents the direction Techlinic Ltd. wishes to go.

Background of the project

EPISODE aims to empower continuing vocational education and training providers to enhance the resilience, digital readiness, and growth of social entrepreneurship, micro-businesses, MSMEs, and early-stage start-ups in Palestine, with a focus on producing public prosperity. This will be achieved by defining future skills needed for social entrepreneurs in the digital era, and aligning such skills to the local unique Palestinian context. The project will upskill teachers/trainers and mentors on innovative tools, online teaching techniques and pedagogies, cutting-edge technologies, and trends in digital social entrepreneurship, and it will involve them in co-creating a blended course on Digital Social Entrepreneurship. The course will be piloted with youth who aspire to become entrepreneurs, young entrepreneurs, and early startups, empowering them to use digital transformation tools and models in order to either expand and improve their operations, or to initiate a social enterprise.

The EPISODE approach will be available to the public and transferable in interested institutions and organizations that are willing to reinforce the capacity and attractiveness of continuing vocational education. Moreover, the project will provide an open online microlearning unit on Digital Social Entrepreneurship, that will be available to all interested organizations and learners in English and Arabic.

The specific objectives for the project are to:

• Anticipate the competencies needed by early and future social entrepreneurs to exploit digital transformation opportunities;
• Expose teachers/trainers and mentors to digital and innovative pedagogical approaches and trends in digital social entrepreneurship;
• Boost the digital and entrepreneurial skills and competencies of youth who aspire to become entrepreneurs, and early start-ups (founders and team members) with a focus on producing public prosperity

The project is funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union (Erasmus+ Capacity Building in the field of VET, project number 101092371). EPISODE lasts two years, from 01 January 2024 to 31 December 2024.

Objectives of the ToT

The aim of the training of trainers (ToT) is to train teachers/trainers and mentors to digital and innovative pedagogical approaches and trends in digital social entrepreneurship.

The Training of Trainers includes: 

1. A series of online conversations on cutting-edge technologies and trends in digital social entrepreneurship 
2. An onsite training week abroad on innovative tools, techniques, and pedagogies in online teaching and mentoring
3. Co-designing a blended learning course on “Digital Social Entrepreneurship” addressing young people willing to open up their businesses or young entrepreneurs in the unique context of Palestine

Training of trainers’ deliverables

* The blended course on “Digital Social Entrepreneurship” will consist in 40 hours online and 100 hours onsite, addressing young people willing to open up their businesses or young entrepreneurs

Requirements

The contract will be awarded to the candidate showing the most relevant experience and knowledge in evaluation and the themes and educational sectors addressed by the project (VET and social entrepreneurship)

• A master’s degree or higher in digital transformation, entrepreneurship, or any other related fields
• Or At least 8 years of practical experience in social entrepreneurship, digital transformation, or other relevant fields 
• experience in business management 
• Availability and ability to travel outside of Palestine

Commitment period 

The contract shall be carried out during the eligibility period of the project

Assignment start date: 15. April. 2024

Assignment end date: 30. December. 2024

In case of an extension to the eligibility period of the project, the contract period is intended to be extended accordingly (without any budget changes).
